Venusense Active Prevention Lab (ADlab) discovers a new Microsoft vulnerability

Microsoft released the latest patch packages on Aug 12, 2008 for the severe vulnerabilities of OFFICE software mentioned in the security notice (MS08-051). The software affected by this vulnerability consist of Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3, Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3, Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 2, Microsoft Office 2003 Service Pack 3, 2007 Microsoft Office System, 2007 Microsoft Office System Service Pack 1 and Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac. This vulnerability can allow the Microsoft PowerPoint to execute any code of the attackers such as Trojan, virus, Botnet network, worm and spy software. The common users can not perceive the execution of the these codes.


This patch package is for a severe vulnerability Parsing Overflow Vulnerability which is discovered by the security researcher in Venusense ADlab and is contained in CVE. The vulnerability code is CVE-2008-1455. the Microsoft also thanks for this vulnerability in the security notice which is released on 12th day this month. It is known that the vulnerabilities which are discovered by ADlab and are listed by CVE are ranked as the first position in Asia.
